What we do
Being based in Bristol means we all share two things in common - a love of the city and a love for the sea. We run trips, events and socials in Bristol and at beaches down the west coast, with the aim of connecting women both in and out of the water.
Each month we aim to run:
1 x surf trip - day trips, weekend trips, international trips, trips to The Wave.
1-2 x events - skate sessions, forecasting workshops, arts/craft classes, wellbeing circles, cold swims etc.
1 x social - a free, monthly park or pub social
If you have attended 2+ of our events or socials in a year, we ask that you purchase our Sisterhood Subscription (£20 a year). Find out more here.
We also encourage people within our community to organise smaller trips, meet-ups and socials. Want to go for a surf somewhere, run a class, or grab a drink? Chuck a message in our WhatsApp chat and see who is keen to join!
Thinking about coming along to an event or social? Take a look at some of our past events!
If you have some questions or are a bit nervous about joining, drop us a message and we’ll put you in touch with one of our lovely members 💌
Surf Trip + Lessons
We run surf trips to Porthcawl (one of our closest surf spots). Our last trip was with 35 women including newcomers, regulars, beginners and intermediate surfers. The weather delivered giving us a sun-filled day of surf lessons, a social surf and beachside picnic. 100% of our survey respondents said they made a new friend that day which was so great to hear.
Skate Sessions
For those who like to be on a board on land when they can't get in the sea, we run skate socials and lessons throughout the year. Earlier this year we headed to a Campus Pool skate park for a women's only evening. Tricks were learnt, friends were made and there was always someone there to cheer you on and help you back up.
Sister Surf Sessions
We've been heading to the Sister Surf Sessions at The Wave since they first began. It's a day of women's only surfing in Bristol's inland wave pool with skating, yoga, music and great food. There is always so much support for each other both in and out of the water. We couldn’t think of a better way to spend a day.
Pub Social
Pub? Yes please. As tricky as it is to find seats for a club this big, we love a pub meet. It's a great way to get to know new people without having to cling onto a surfboard and think about pop-ups at the same time. This photo is from a pub trip in March where, despite a poorly-timed dump of snow, over 50 women came together for pizzas and pints. A lot of people had never been to a BGSC event before so it was great to see everyone having such a laugh and leaving with new pals.
Festival Trip
We had the absolute best time camping in Devon at Spring Classic Festival with a huge group of gals from the club. The ocean was flat as a lake but we were partying, swimming, singing and taking thai chi, yoga and breathwork classes. We also ate a lot of excellent food (thank you bao truck).
