Are there any age restrictions for being part of BGSC?

You must be at least 18 years old to participate in all aspects of BGSC (including online communities, meet-ups, and in person events/socials/trips). You may attend if you are 16 or 17 if accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Is the club LGBTQ+ friendly?

Yes! If you identify as a woman or as non-binary, the club is absolutely for you and you are welcome in our online communities and at all of our events, socials and trips. If you have any concerns or would like to find out more, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Do I need a Sisterhood Subscription to join the club?

If you have attended 2 or more of our events/socials/trips, we ask that you purchase a Sisterhood Subscription. You can do so here! You can also join right away to get access to all of the subscriber benefits which you can find out about here. We also have a whole page of Sisterhood Subscription FAQ’s here.

Our online Facebook group and community chats will always be free and open to all - no subscription needed. You can also join lots of our events/socials but you won’t benefit from subsidised tickets unless you are a Sisterhood Subscriber.

I am a beginner / I have never surfed before - can I join the club?

Yes! Our club is made up of surfers of all abilities, with lots of beginners and women trying surfing for the first time. It’s a great way to meet some people to learn and progress with. Our more experienced surfers are more than happy to share tips and advice too!

I am a brand/company interested in partnering with the club - who do I contact?

We'd love to hear from you! Please contact us here.

Which beaches do you normally go to?

We’re lucky that there are plenty of beaches not too far from Bristol! One of the closest beaches with surf hire is Rest Bay in Porthcawl in Wales, which is a great spot for beginners. Groups from the club often go on day trips and longer trips beaches in North Devon (including Saunton, Croyde, Putsborough, Woolacoombe), Wales (including The Gower, Llangennith, Rhossili), and Cornwall (including Newquay, Bude, Sennen). Make sure to check the tide times and conditions before heading to the beach.

Does the club surf at The Wave?

Women from Bristol Girls Surf Club are at The Wave pretty much every week! We have specific WhatsApp and Facebook chats for women that are keen to meet up at The Wave so be sure to join if you’re keen. We also head to The Wave’s Sister Sessions 3 times a year and bring the big BGSC flag along so we can all get together for an afternoon of women only surf sessions and lessons!

Do I need my own equipment?

No, you don’t need any kit to join! All official club trips take place at beaches that have surf hire shops so you can get everything you need. If you’re going to an unofficial meet up, make sure to check that the beach you’re heading to has hire available.
